with only the music of the harpist, percussionist and Haigh’s sweet-sounding voice, the audience travelled to a serene and tranquil lake with the bright moon’s light reflecting on the water
Alex started his musical education at Hull University reading Music and Drama, following which he studied at TrinityLaban Conservatoire and trained with the Associated Studios in Hammersmith, ENO’s ‘Opera Works’ and The Berlin Opera Academy.
On stage, he has worked with Grange Park Opera, The Grange Festival, Merry Opera, Longborough Festival, Guildford Opera, Fulham Opera, Kings Head Theatre, Gothic Opera and Hampstead Garden Opera to name a few.
This year’s solo oratorio highlights include Verdi’s Requiem with Choir2000, Handel’s Dixit Dominus with West London Chorus and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Baroquestock in Hampstead. Next year’s solo engagements include Mozart’s Mass in C Minor (Choir 2000, Cambridge), Mozarts Alma dei Creatoris (West London Chorus, Cadogan Hall) and Nisi Dominus (Hackney).
From September 2022 Alex joined The Royal Opera House Chorus and whilst still engaged as a soloist many times a year, he performs most nights at Covent Garden. He made his solo debut last season at ROH singing Le Remendado (Carmen) and Stig (Festen). Alongside chorus work, he has covered Nathanael (Tales of Hoffman), Messenger (Aida), Gastone (Traviata) and Spoletta (Tosca).
Away from singing, Alex is a Patron of The Chiltern Centre in Henley-on-Thames, an organisation dedicated to providing respite care for young adults with disabilities. He is also a bee-keeper and has a thriving (on an incredibly small scale) honey business, serving literally tens of people annually. He also has a dog called Barney, whose high notes Alex continues to be inspired by.
